Has anyone been to one of the presentations that the Bloodhound SSC team are doing around the country. This is the car that aims to crack the 1000mph barrier. Went along last night and was pretty impressed by what I heard. Lots of big numbers including using an 800bhp race engine just to power the pump for the auxiliary rocket motor. Primary propulsion will be from a development version of the Eurofighter Typhoon jet engine.
Aussies and Yanks are going for it as well but my money would be on this Richard Noble fronted team again.

Thanks Focus, meant to put a link in myself.

Quite like the idea of getting your name on the fin for £10.

I've been reading a bit more on the website - sounds like quite a challenge. They aim to crack 1000mph, which as they point out is 31% faster than the existing record. At that speed 'the wheel rims will be subjected to 50,000g'.

It's also trying to promote science in general - number one objective is:

To create a national surge in the popularity of Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects.

Good luck to them!

Do you think they'll do a road-going version?

Andy Green must be stark raving bonkers >>(from Westpig's locked thread)

Agreed, an ejector seat wont do you any good, one problem and you are toast.

I know Andy Green and he isn't bonkers, he is fearless. There is a difference!
