23m quid spent on a new road, major inconvenience to road users for months on end. Now they got the tarmac mix wrong. No worries the local taxpayers will pick up the bill whilst these clowns go elsewhere to practice their reverse alchemy turning gold into mud.

That's happened twice this year on major trunk roads in Cheshire. They seem more keen to get the contractors back these days than in the past.

There is a crossroads a couple of miles from me which they have been resurfacing a bit here and a bit there since May. It has lanes coned off and temporary traffic lights with no filters and is causing a lot of congestion. It's pathetic to watch and no doubt an inferior job with so many joins. It looks like the council has got some bloke and his lad to do it in their spare time. It almost looks like a deliberate congestion creation operation on one of the main arterial roads into Nottingham City. There is no reason why this couldn't be done overnight by a contractor.

Indeed. Part of the roadworks needed for the new Cambridge guided bus is overlooked by a friend. He reports that since they started they have dug up the same section of road and resurfaced it again no less than 14 times so far.

(The bus is unsurprisingly going to be late. As to being over budget, in 2004 it was estimated and accepted that it would be £86.4 million. By 2006, that was £116.2 million. We don't yet know how much it will actually be. Still, it will increase the service from 2 an hour to 6 and shave at least several minutes from the journey time, although tickets costs haven't been announced yet.)

Typical. Our local council can't even make a resurfaced rural road last 2 weeks.
The sprayed a thin smeer of tar on the old pitted surface, spread a load of chips, and then left the local traffic to roll it for them. The chips have all been spattered into the hedgerows, and the tar has either worn away or is polished smooth in the few places where it remains.

But they have announced that the tickets won't be interchangeable between the two companies operating the service.

But this is the good bit, you can't buy a ticket on the bus. You have to buy it from a machine at the stop in advance of the bus arriving. So if you buy a ticket for A, but if B turns up first (second, third, etc) you have to wait for an A bus to use your ticket.
