Polo water pump/bearings expired @ 28,000. Should it have lasted longer?

Oh, and what's the second answer to that wretched 'pop-up' question ? anyone?...

Mine went for 79K prior to replacement.

28k in 2 years? Yes

28k in 12 yrs, never changed antifreeze? No

somewhere in between? maybe

First reg Mar '98 so 4.5 years. 'John The Garage' said it was the second low-mileage Polo water-pump he'd replaced recently and wondered if it was an original part fault?

As Mrs RickyBoy will be settling the bill in this instance I was rather more concerned with obtaining the answer to that question!
