Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 99 2.00 Fuel Promblem

Hi new on so here go's
I have a Peugeot 406 diesel Est. it was running fine up until 4 weeks ago then it started to cut out when i put my foot down a little on the motoway, i pull over sat for 5 mins then it started again, it slowly got worse over 3 weeks, then one day on my way home from work it just stopped all together, also when it cut a light came on the one for the fuel injection one, so i was told it could be the relay for the glow plugs, i change that, then i put new glow plugs in it, i changed the fuel filter and it still wont start, i,ve now been told it could be the fuel pump in the fuel tank.
I dont no if anyone can help me, it will go if i toe start it, but when you put your foot down it cuts out.
do you think if i change the pump in the fuel tank that would sort it out.
