How long will I have to wait for a medical review from the DVLA?

I had my licence suspended for medical reasons 10 months ago. These issues have have now been resolved and my consultant says I am clear to drive. I have applied to the DVLA but I hear horror stories...

Is there still a backlog with the DVLA regarding re-issuing driving licences after medical clearance from a consultant. If so is it known how many cases are in the backlog and for how long?
