Time for a service again on the faithful Colt at my friendly independent. I'll usually go and buy the parts (what few it needs) from the main dealer.
Always like to check the prices before handing over the reddies so asked for the price on a Oil Filter for an 06 Colt 1.1 After a couple of minutes guy comes back and says £4.52 + VAT
Jaw dropped in amazement, how cheap is that, the best I could find on ebay was £13 for the same filter. Just goes to show that sometimes dealers are good value for cetain things, indeed 2 years ago the price was £5.59+Vat so its actually gone down.
Now Mitsubishi if you start selling the Colt CZ2 with the 1.1 engine and add some side airbags for about 7k I may just be back to buy a whole car next time :)
Off to go and by some oil from Halford now, thats cheaper than 2 years ago too!

Most Jap cars use a choice of about 3 different oil filters in total, so millions are made therefore they are cheap. Its when you need something that isn't a consumable ie a wishbone or a wheel bearing and the like you'll get a shock.

Main dealers have a huge mark up on parts, I find that a discount is usually freely given if asked for on service parts, I havent needed anything else recently.

The best thing about Mitsubishi spare parts is that you don't seem to need them very often. My p12 Primera needs a new window regulator - £300 plus fitting. I may well get another MItsubishi next time. Though the new Lancers seem quite pricey, they will be cheap enough for me in a couple of years.

I was in the parts dept of the local Ford dealer last week and the customer ahead of me got a pair of Brembo discs and pads for £52 and some change. That was with 25% discount, I assume trdae. Don't know which model they were for but did seem cheap.

My rough rule is that proper mechanical parts (ie brake discs) for most makes are not priced too badly, but if it's mechanical and luxury (ie a self locking part) the price goes up and it it is trim related you need to be sitting down!
A bit cynical I know!

Car in for service, I was waiting for the bill - overheard the telephone tale:
Your car needs front brake pads £79 and the disks are corroded, £90.
Do you want us to do it now!
Booked in for a service and taken to the cleaners!

That seems astonishingly cheap for Brembo stuff.

We had to order a front ABS Sensor for a '52 plate Shogun last week. £313+vat!! Special order & non-returnable, it turns out that it may have been the ring on the CV Joint that was faulty after all, cost for replacement CV Joint? £425+vat!!

There's one on eBay but even that's £250. I've seen comments before that it can be way cheaper to buy Mitsubishi parts in Australia and get them shipped over here. Not very convenient though!
