Early C5s had trouble with noisy rear suspension. There were various 'fixes' up to and including replacing the rear subframe with a modified one. Possible that this one missed out, or it is now done enough miles that the replacement is worn out too. Rear arm bearings (a weak point on Citroens since the 70's!) are now starting to need replacement on high mile C5s.

Richard, I have a C5, 2001 Y, that has done 131000 miles. The camber of the rear tyres is bad, wearing the tyres on the inner edge, and there is a sqeek from the drivers side rear...which disappears if you pump the suspension up (...well it would wouldn't it as this removes the movement!!). The previous owner said Citroen first said the rear arms were bent, then said the axle needed replacing. I took it to a local Citroen specialist and one of the mechanics there did not look at the car, and said bearings.
My mechanic said rear arms, but at the dealer, all the parts are available, so then I bought the bearings, and my mechanic will fit these...but I am worried we are just guessing. Any comments would be much appreciated. jeremybedford@hotmail.co.uk

jezbed - I had the same problem on two Citroen BXs. Both the squeak and the tyre wear were fixed by replacing the rear trailing arm bearings.
