Hi all
We have a 1.6 2005 Zafira Life, it has 39,000 miles and is just coming up for it's 4th service. We bought it from Vauxhall last year so want to take it to a main dealer for it's service just before the warranty runs out, just incase they find anything terminal!
Anyway, booked it in and they told us the 4th service is a 'big one'. Great!! We were then told it would need the cambelt changed??? Bearing in mind it's got low mileage and is only 4yrs old I think this is crazy!
Checked the service booklet and it comes under the EcoService 1 bracket, under the scheduled items, at four years it has the following:
'Ribbed belt and tensioner - check'
At 8yrs or 80,000 it has 'toothed belt and tensioning roller - replace'
Which one of these is the cambelt? Is it the Ribbed belt or toothed belt?
Either way at 4yrs /39,000 miles it's not due?? Am I being ill advised?
Many Thanks,
Adam

you won't think that when it snaps! I wouldn't worry about age or mileage I would get it done before it fails. knowing what a reputation they have for failing it will be money well spent! & its due now anyway. vauxhall reduced the 80k to 40k

In vauxhall speak, toothed belt is the cam belt, ribbed belt is the auxilliary belt.
is it the Zafira a or b?
My info says toothed belt (cam belt) should be replaced at 40k or 4 years on zafira a.
On zafira b its a bit confusing; but personally I wouldnt stretch the change point past the 40k 4 year interval.
Always conside that whilst the cost of a timing belt change is expensive; its cheaper than failure !

Thanks for replies!
I'm not sure if it's Zafira A or B, I see that Zafira B runs from 2005, this car was February 2005. How can I tell?
Whilst I appreciate it would be ridiculous of me to allow the cambelt to snap and suffer that damage I also do not want to replace it for the sake of it if the manufacturer advises otherwise. Although if the manufacturer does advise it's changed then I will get it done like a shot.
The service book says it is not due but who knows if i've got the right service book for the car.
It's an extra £230 on top of the service for the cambelt, if it's not in the schedule I could really do without spending that what with the credit crunch 'n all!

By the way, Zafira B is new shape so not difficult to tell.

Just had same scenario with my dealer on my 1.6 Zafira B over last three years. First it was 4 years or 40,000 miles, then 4 years or 60,000 miles. Now I'm told it's 100,000 miles or 10 years which seems to be confirmed by service book and the stuff on the web as it is a Z16XEP (Twinport) engine.

Zafira-A official recommendations:-

60,000 miles or 6 yrs.
Zafira-B official recommendations:-

If it's the Z16XEP engine, then 100,000 miles or 10 yrs.

Great links! Thanks DD.
My (missus) Zafira is a Zafira A. Looking at those documents in your links and bearing in mind it is a FEB/2005 this would suggest the need for cambelt change occurs under the following guide:
"Model Year 2005 - 6 years or 60,000 miles except Z20LET = 4 Years of 40,000 miles"
So if I can eliminate the 'Z20LET' element then it does not need the camblet change!!
So, next question, what on earth is a Z20LET?
Thanks!

The 2.0 litre petrol turbo engine I think.

"The 2.0 litre petrol turbo engine I think."..............in which case I definitely do not need to change the Cambelt!
Thanks!

Thought the 2.0 turbo was a chain cam lump?

Thought the 2.0 turbo was a chain cam lump?
You've made me think now.
The Vectra laminate I have suggests it is, but the Zafira laminate doesn't. Maybe there are different engine codes.
A quick google found the specs of the Z20LET. The picture shows it has a belt.
