Asda Fuel Discount Cut - Mr X
For those using the Asda Credit card to purchase fuel from their pay at pump set ups, the 2p discount given for such use will be reduced on 28th Feb to 1p. This will last only as long as your card is valid and will cease on expire date.

They say this is because we, the customer, have asked for reward points instead in the letter that passed on this news. Funny, I don't recall being asked.

I understood that the current cards were unaffected and a new card was being released for reward points on non fuel purchaces. You can not have both cards. I may be wrong!

As you can no longer apply for the ASDA "Everyday" card, I suspect that it is being phased out and replaced with the "Reward" card. So the fuel discount is probably on the way out.

If you apply for a new card, it's reward points only. Current cards will be reduced from 2p to 1p. When that card expires, then only reward point cards will be available to you. That is my understanding.

My understanding from reading the website
cannot apply for the Everyday card anymore.
those who have card or already applied get 1p off petrol until the card expires.

The new rewards card: "You earn a single point for every £4 you spend. 1 point is worth £0.01 in ASDA money off vouchers". vouchers delivered in time for Xmas.
Interest of 18%.

No thanks!

ASDA petrol is still 1 or 2p cheaper than anywhere else round here anyway. (84.9)

Well, you wouldn't really expect them to run their entire marketing strategy on your personal views, would you? Presumably they're in this business to make a profit.

I'll stick with my 3p off Shell, then, with their card... and pay it off in full each month... car seems to go better with Shell rather than Supermarket stuff, anyhow!

And as my nearest Asda is over 10 miles away its not really worth it! ;)

They claim it is in response to asking customers what they would prefer. Well put your hand up if they asked you. Wonder if I will ever never meet any one who was asked ?

I've got one and my hand stays down, MrX. Never been asked. Shop at Asda every week but have a Shell near home to use the Shell card.

Yes I use Shell too, their price is always the same or lower than the supermarkets, and you get 2p off a litre with their rewards card and an additional 2-4p off with their credit card.

Which reward card is that? I have a Shell Drivers Club card (I think), which I thought only gave me about 0.5p a litre off.

The credit card I've got gives me 3% off Shell fuel, which is great, but they've changed this for new cardholders to 3p off per litre - even better in principle, except that the smallprint said this only applied to prices of £1/litre or greater. Though since prices dropped I guess they've had to change that for the incentive to be worth anything...

Edit: looks like it's gone back to 3% again.

Mines a Citi mastercard - same as yours?

I applied for and received the Shell card in question. I spent a great deal of time hanging on to an expensive 0870 number waiting to initiate it. In fact having worked out how much fuel I would have to buy to cover those phone calls, I gave up ringing and emailed them. They didn't reply so I cut it up and sent it back with a covering letter.
Thats when I applied for the Asda card. Wouldn't use for anything other than derv and paid the full amount each statement.

You are unlucky, MrX, has anything ever gone smoothly for you?! For the record I had no probs initiating it... I wonder if you can do it online these days?!
