It's close enough, so I'd like to wish all BackRoom members (and guests, lurkers, ect) a Happy Christmas.
Without your contribution and input, this place would not be what it is, so I thank you for that.
Have a good time whatever it is you'll be getting up to, and I hope you also have a prosperous new year.
Dave.

The same to you, all the other mods and of course HJ.

Thankyou Dave, much appreciated.
And i too wish all here a joyous and peaceful time over Christmas, all the best, and may the New Year be welcome and promising.
|
All the best to everyone.. ;)

Very best wishes for Christmas and the New Year from me too, and many thanks to HJ and the moderators for all the time they give - and successfully - to keep the Backroom's reputation high. And thanks to all contributors who have kept us interested and entertained during the year.
A few prophecies for 2009:
Dynamic Dave will stay loyal to Vauxhall, but Pugugly will acquire something fast and furious to complement the Roomster
Humph Backbridge will either still have Betsy the Ford or (if she does finally hang up whatever cars hang up) he'll get fed up with the Signum and get another Mondeo
Stunorthants will change at least one of his cars
Either Adam or PoloGirl (but not both) will reappear in the Backroom.
Rattle will be driving something other than a Fiesta.
Have a great time everyone. Must go and play the organ for the carol service.

Ditto the above comments. Best wishes to everyone. Hope you all get something nice to unwrap.
|
Best wishes to all. It's going to be an "interesting" year. Let's all relax for a few days, gather some energy and with a bit of fortune and a lot of effort we'll all get through.
Oh, and Avant might be right !
If I could wake up Christmas morning sans Betsy and the Signum but with an ST155 Estate I'd be more than happy......
;-)
Merry Christmas !!

Thanks Dave, and all the best to all.
If anyone is lucky enough to get the big car shaped pressie from the Bently dealer in Hamilton, will they tell us all what it is?
|
Ha Ha, you noticed that as well??
Was wondering if someone really is getting a present or whether they just wrap the car up in paper to save having to dust them down in this economic climate!!
Merry Christmas to everyone, will save the Happy New Year for next week!
|
Yup, all the best to "the management" and visitors alike.
|
|
|
|
I'd also like to wish the Backroom members (including the moderators) and Honest John all the best for Christmas and the New Year. Without the contributors where would we be.
A special thanks for those that take the time to answer some of the technical posts with their in depth knowledge of things motoring.

Crimble humbug to everyone, particularly the poor sods what have to decide whether or not to pass this sort of doubtful message ;>)

Seasons Greetings to each and everyone of you. I know at times there are varying opinions and sometimes we don't necessarily see eye to eye on some subjects but it is everyone's passion about what they believe in that keeps this site unique.
|
Happy Christmas to all - hope that "the crunch" doesn't hit you too hard and that you all have a very good 2009 - thanks for keeping me entertained for another year and thanks to mods for maintaining the high standards of the site - best one on the net.

Happy Christmas all.
Not been around much lately but hope to remedy in the New Year.

A merry Christmas and happy new year from deepest Gloucestershire to all.
May your next car service be to a Gold standard.
May the dealer?s stamp be legible enough to make Franking sense.
May the free valet include polishing the rear view Myrrh.

I add my good wishes to all readers and writers of the excellent things we find in the Back Room! Where would we be without "I Have a Question" and all the good answers, among all the other wisdom on offer? Drive safely, eat well, and drink at home!

"... and drink at home!"
.... and if you drink a little too much don't drive the next day and more importantly think before you post on here!
Merry Christmas!

after the chaos of asda's carpark yesterday i'm considering buddhism for next year
im with you there taff, why do all asda carparks only have one entry/ exit on the car parks?
|
>>why do all asda carparks only have one entry/exit on the car parks?
We must have a posh asda, two entry/exits to the same main road, shame the vast majority of lemmings only use one. Total chaos today, Ill keep well clear of anything retail tomorrow.
All the best to all back roomers, have a safe and comfortable christmas.

........why do all asda carparks only have one entry/ exit on the car parks?
Carcroft Asda carpark has two of each. However, it's owned/administered by Doncaster MBC not Asda. Perhaps that's what makes the difference.

Good point Rob re posting and alcohol. I put a rude joke on here last Christmas while I was a bit drunk. Got told off and quite right too. It was quite a good rude joke though and motoring related.....

Yep, Merry Christmas one and all, thanks to the mods for all their hard work, DD & PU especially.
Good work on the tree in the first post DD, a picture first for the BR?!

Not really Lee. There have been a few other occasions where we've posted a pic or two in a thread.

I doubt it will be happy for motoring. See today's Telegraph front page. We are to be fined for nearly eveything, including turning on a radio. I recall a Rowan Atkinson sketch in which a young policeman charges someone with "looking at me in a funny way".

Thanks to the mods for their excellent work to the participants for their humour patience and excellent advice and to our host HJ.
(Not forgetting Stephen and all in the back room)
A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Yes I agree - a really happy Christmas and new year to everyone.
Especially tawse and altea ego - if I think I have upset anyone over the course of last year - it is probably these two - so a genuine internet hand shake to you both and all the very best.

I thought I'd covered everyone but I'm ashamed to say I forgot the back room guys. Sorry and thanks.

We have reared, plucked and dressed 500 turkeys this year, so as usual at Christmas we are all quite tired.
My wife says "do not overcook the turkey", many people do.
Merry Christmas to everyone, especially the mods who make this site simply the best.

Best Wishes everyone...take care and if you have to drive, do it carefully

Seasonal Salutations To All!!

Merry Christmas all :)
Avant - where is this year's BR carol? There is still time!

Seasons greetings to everyone & peace

In response to PoloGirl's request, and in honour of Mapmaker, last heard of leaving London W1 for Manchester on Christmas Eve......
(The 12 days of Christmas started on Christmas Day, so I'm not late!)
O little town of Birmingham,
How still we see thee lie.
Around thee, on the M6 toll
The other cars go by.
Yet in thy dark streets? gridlock
Mapmaker?s car is stuck:
His hopes of making Manchester
Are dashed. He says ?Oh bother?.?
?O Holy Spirit of Manchester,
Descend to me? he cries:
And in his deep and dreamful sleep
Backroomers now arise.
Espada glides all down th? M6
All four wheels in a skid:
Cries Rattle ?It?s fiesta time ?
Good cheer to you I bid.?
And out of Wales salvation comes;
There?s Roomster at the inn:
Pugugly waves his magic wand
(Which moderators win);
And mods disguised as angels
The great glad tidings tell:
?Mere mortals automatics drive ?
Our Lord ? a manual.?
|
Heh heh Avant !
Or maybe he's on the the Elvis songsheet, "Cortina a trap"........

Made me smile Avant - excellent.
Only one criticism - the rhyming seems to go a little awry on last 3 lines of verse one - still scans well, but the rhyme??? Must confess, it's a difficult one........
But not as difficult as "Mods disguised as Angels" - a virgin birth is one thing, but Mods as Angels??? - you must be joking!.
How about one for New Year??
Best wishes
Phil

Belated greetings - hope it went well for you all. I was in an Internet free bit of Caernarfonshire and enjoyed a cracking bit of weather. Regardless of the politics spare a thought for our people serving abroad, some of them in high risk environments. A real credit to their generation.
Unexpected motoring related gift was thanks to Sky Anytime thoughtfully recording the original Italian Job in glorious High Def. for me whilst I was away. Brilliant.

"Made me smile Avant - excellent....How about one for New Year??"
How kind, Phil. Not too many New Year carols that I can parody: instead let me quote one of my favourite (and shortest) poems, one of Anon's best:
Three wise men of Gotham
Went to sea in a bowl.
If the bowl had been stronger,
My song would have been longer.
I'm sure we can all think of people whose lack of foresight has got us to where we are at the moment (although don't let's name anyone or else the moderators will quite rightly rip off their angels' disguise....).
Similar theme from the late, great Spike Milligan which I hope will raise a smile to start the New Year:
The boy stood on the burning deck.....
Twit.

Same from me as well , I hope 2009 will be a good one for all. HAPPY NEW YEAR FOLKS!

So it's come to this.....5 to 10 on New Year's Eve and I'm in the BR. Give me strength.
Still I read that several hundred people filed their tax returns on-line this day last year so there are still several levels left for me to fall.
Have a safe and prosperous 2009.
