97 1.8TD no boost? - Kowalski
Hi,

I'd appreciate any help eliminating problems with my Escort Endura TD, its the crap 75ps version. I've recently lost all boost pressure removing any slight performance it had, it only occasionally kicks in and takes off but not very often. I haven't noticed any excessive black smoke or fuel consumption and have also removed the EGR valve and cleaned it all out, could it still be the EGR causing problems?

cheers in advance.

also forgot to add, it runs very rough on idle as though it's missing, and when drving it lurches off throttle if you coast. my first thought was an air leak but I had all the pipes off and checked them (when I did the EGR) and it looked ok.

Is it an electronically managed engine, if so it could be a worn/faulty throttle pot.

Try this. Get someone to help you and choose an ambiently quiet moment around you. Open the bonnet and put your ear close to the injection pump then get assistant to turn on the ignition. You should hear a short sequence of 'clicks' from the solenoid on the underside of the pump (not the stop solenoid). If its quiet look at No3 injector. It should have an electrical connector going to it.
Establish which pump you have (tricky, needs a torch and mirror) then find a diesel specialist who can supply a new injector and advance solenoid and preferably double check your findings.
Had quite a few of these go faulty, the rough idle is the clue.

Thanks Andrew, I'll try and find someone to give me a hand and do what you suggest.

I've had a quick look at the pump as I'd read elsewhere that it could be the fuel timing solenoid (?) is this the solenoid you mention? and is it easy to change should that be the problem?

Thanks again for the swift replies.
