I have had a good offer from my local Toyota dealer on an Aygo that he has in the Showroom. The offer is on par with the recent Drive The Deal Toyota offers.
Should I buy now or negotiate a January delivery/registration so that it is a 2009 car?
The dealer says registering it in December will make very little difference to its value in 3 years time (but he would, would'nt he!) but what do you think?

Getting it on a 09 plate might make a difference but the change in plate does not happen in January. It will still be a 58 plate car in January.
|
Aren't they bringing out an updated version very soon, it does around 2 MPG more and outputs less Co2. Although when that comes out it won't be as cheap for a while.
|
The newer version is as ugly as sin. The new version of the 107 is as ugly as sin with a brace on its teeth ;)

The Aygo is hardly changed, most people wouldn't even notice the very slight change in the nose.

Go for it now. The deal may no longer be available in January particularly if it's only on this particular car.

Fatboab .... do the deal now !!!!!!!!!!
You will not get that deal in January or for a January registration
I run a Toyota dealer so I know you wont and this is the reason why.
All dealers have an annual target and a quarterly target obviously these end at the end of December..... if a dealer hits these then you are talking many many thousands of pounds of bonus......... possibly your dealer is still a few short so will do a crazy deal to hit their target, once 2009 arrives then all bets are off unless he pre regs the Aygo in December to sell in January but funds are tight for all dealers these days so probably wont pre reg.
If its simlair to a brokers price then get the deal done.
What's the exact model Aygo, doors and any extras and what otr price have you been quoted I can then tell you if its a good deal...... (if it helps)
btw registering it in December will make virtually no difference come trade in time in a few years time.

Hi Eddy, thanks for your comments.
It is an Aygo Platinum, 3 door, no extras. £7,470 otr.
|
under normal circumstances this is a good deal @ £7470 otr ( non aircon model) the cost price to the dealer after stripping out front end and back end money is £7247.
however every deal is worth a lot this time of year ... IMHO tell him you have found a cheaper quote at a dealer who is a few off his A.S.O. (annual sales objective) and try to get as close to £7200 as possible.
If he wont budge get a 3 year service plan thrown in for free.
But and this is a big but be sure its the car for you and be ready to commit to a deal there and then..... however at £7470 its still a very fair deal.
Let us know how you get on please
|
Thanks Eddy, I'll keep you posted - probably tomorrow due to work.

"It is an Aygo Platinum, 3 door, no extras. £7,470 otr."
You could get a new Panda with the Multijet diesel for £6,295.
With respect, Do yourself a favour and test drive one from a local dealer before you buy the Aygo.
There is no comparison on which feels the most robust and powerful on the road. No cambelt or shimmed tappets to worry about, or spring an extra service cost either.

Good point ... nice car .. be sure before you commit to a deal on the Aygo
|
Actually, just remembered - the Aygo has a chain. Sorry. Also... particulate filters now on diesels....mm, maybe not ;)

after stripping out front end and back end money>>
May we know what these are, please?
|
Front end = the margin a dealer has over the cost price from the manufacturer, normally about 4% to 5% on most makes but base models can be as low as 2%
Back end = a further % that a dealer receives quarterly from the manufacturer if they are hitting sales targets, keeping a good customer feedback score and maintaining their premises and sticking to the manufacturers standards .... normally a further 5% to 7% ish.

niceguyeddy,
A lot simpler in "my" day - early 1980s.
All our stock was fully paid and we got seventeen-and-a-half per cent off the basic price from Mr Renault.

Deal has been done @ £7420 otr. I am happy with that as it works out cheaper that the drivethedeal price + delivery charge to 'the other side of the border' or the inconvenience of us having to drive to englandshire to collect the Aygo to avoid the delivery charge.
It also supports my local dealership too.
Collecting it next Friday - yipee!
Already have two toyotas in the family, one of them 15 years old and the reliability is great, that is why I found it difficult to consider other manufacturers.
Thanks to Eddy and all for their input. Even got advice from HJ himself :-), well chuffed!
Great forum too HJ!
