Hi everyone, new to the forums.
Just received my new golf yesterday and absolutely love it ! Been waiting for approx 6 months for the car to come through, but it has been worth it.
Previously had a Polo auto before and going from that car to this one is a big jump.
Effortless acceleration and dsg gearbox makes for a great driving experience.
Bought the car from JCT600 VW Bradford, which is where I had previously purchased the Polo from.
As always, the sales team at JCT600 have provided exceptional customer service both during the sales process and after.
:)

This was the car I wanted, to replace my current 1.6FSI MK V Golf. However I wanted the 1.4 TSI 122 PS manual but thtat was withdrawn earlier this year and so will have to wait for the new MK VI and order that next year - hopefully a model with a 1.4 TSI engine and with a manual gearbox.

Hi, yes I'm aware that this engine got withdrawn a while back. Not sure why, but have read that there was a huge backlog for this engine and VW could not keep up with it. Not sure though if this is true or not.
Just out of interest, I asked the sales staff at Bradford , when the new VW Golf will be available to order. Was told December.
From what i've read on the internet, the new Golf will be available with 2 Tsi engines initially.
The 122 TSi and also a 160bhp TSi.
Hope this helps !

Yes, I am aware of what my options are now, but in a way it's a shame I could not order that nice MK V Golf 'Match' with the 1.4 TSI 122PS engine - Oh well, here comes a new MK V1 hopefully with a March 1st number plate for 2009.
Toward the end of the year I'll have to enquire when my local VW dealers (how I hate these) will be able to take my order for the new model providing I can find the spec. I want.
VW, unfortunately, are notorious for continually changing specs. even during the period that you have to wait for your car from the date of order. I know, because I had been the victim of such changes on my present car, although I came to terms with those things that had been 'removed' from my SE specified car during the 10 weeks or so that I had to wait for mine!!

Do I detect a bit of product - or rather retailer - placement here?
Reminds me of cheesey detergent ad where the aim is to repeat the brand as many times as possible....
no offence to the OP !

What on earth prompted such a reply such as that? I, at least am trying to discuss the merits, or otherwise, of serendipitous fortune.
In some ways VW have done me a favour and hopefully, I'll end up with a 'better' car, eventually.

Hi Duncan16, there is no product reatiler placement etc etc. It was just an innocent post by me about my new Golf !
I picked up the Golf yesterday and am very happy with it, and also with the supplying dealer.
I have also put a review on Parkers.

I have also put a review on Parkers.
Is that the review where, in answer to the question "What was the dealer like?", you managed to mention the dealer's name twice in one paragraph?
Welcome anyway. You'll get used to us and our funny suspicious ways if you stick around.

LOL I was thinking the same thing!
Sorry OP but your post reads like an advert for the dealer! Very unnatural!
PS Oldgit, it was nothing to do with your post.....
|
As usual, I got the wrong end of the stick! In fact I re-read the original post and hadn't realised that the dealer was twice mentioned.

Oldgit, your post is interesting.
The way I read it, although there is a new model of Golf coming out, you are already saying that as long as the spec is right you will get one.
This interests me, and please don't take as a criticism, are you one of these people that sticks to the one make of car and just renews all the time?
I used to work with a woman who, at that time, was onto her 7th Golf. She renewed every two years, sometimes her new car would be the same as her old other than colour , but thats just what she did!

You are completely wrong - LOL. My current Golf MK V is the first Golf/German car I have ever owned and, compared with what I had recently owned i.e. two Rover 400's, is the best car, in terms of perceived quality (VW quality arguments aside), comfort and economy etc.
I love the car, but after almost 4 years I want to replace it with a new one but as I said previously, the model I wanted was discontinued and then I found out that the relatively short life of the MK V was to come to an end.
The MK VI seems to be an obvious replacement, as I have looked at the Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astra etc. and find their styling and general feel, leaves something to be desired.
I am attracted to the supercharged 1.4TSI engine and hope that this will be available in a nicely specified Golf with sensible 'normal' profile tyres and the sort of equipment I am used to. I had considered the SEAT alternatives but did not like their interiors and lack of visible external door handles on the rear doors of the 5 dr hatchbacks.
Surprisingly, in over fifty years of driving, I have owned an Austin A30, four new Austin Healey Sprites, a Seventies Ford Escort and a late eighties new Ford Escort followed by two new Rovers and then a new VW Golf. Not a very outstanding or auspicious collection, I would have thought.

I believe that the 122bhp TSi engine is turbocharged only and the 140 and 168bhp versions supercharged and turbocharged (the latter Golf GT only perhaps?)

Yes, of course you are right - silly me. I originally got confused about that engine and did realise that it is now just turbocharged, albeit by a new type of efficient turbocharger.
I'm currently dealing with three visits to my dentist within a 24 hour period and am slightly over anxious and therefore distracted, somewhat.

Hi, with regards to my original post, I have no connections whatsoever with the garage mentioned. I have confirmed this by email !
Normally forum posts are made when things go wrong. I just wanted to post with regards to the great experience I have had with my new car/dealership.
With regards to the car, engine is running in nicely.
How many miles do I need to do by the way to run the engine fully in ?
Thanks :)

Welcome, soul08 to this excellent site.
However, you will soon find out that if you praise VW you are a badge snob or an idiot for not buying a Skoda!
I have got 2 VWs and they have been very reliable so far, in fact they are the most reliable cars that I have owned.
I recently bought a Golf from Carfile, they were very good and competitively priced. (I do not work for them, I am a farmer)
Running in a car is not necessary these days, just make sure you do not labour the engine. The best way to treat a new car is to go for a good run on a variety of roads, the worst thing you can do is to "baby" it.
Make sure you check the oil regularly for the first few thousand miles, using the correct synthetic 507.00 grade oil. My cars used very little oil, but a friend's A3 diesel uses rather a lot.
Good luck with the Golf, you have made the right choice!!
