We have a 1.9TD 306 on a 'P' plate (Oct 96). The Rev counter was working, but has now stopped. It does not appear to have a TDC sensor, plus nothing on 'W' connector on Alternator. Wondering how it gets its signal?

The sensor is on the back of the engine. Get underneath it, and you will find it bolted to the flange on the block at the flywheel end, above the drive shaft. There's usually a connector somewhere above it too that gives trouble (it might be brown - not sure on a 306).
