04 2.0 TDCi flat spot problem. - Imagos

I have a 2004 mondeo 2.0 105PS TDCi which has a awful flat spot from exactly 2500rpm onwards in any gear. Power at this point drops away as is the turbo was being switched off. Overtaking? forget it! Apart from this the engine is fine. There's no misfiring or excess smoke from exhaust. No engine management lights and it starts easily.

The car has done 194,000 miles though as is used as a taxi.

any ideas?

It does sound like a possible turbo failure. There's plenty of hoses round the turbo and intercooler that may have split that could also cause similar issues.
