04 1.4 cambelt + waterpump change help needed - puggered
hi, the waterpump is leaking on my brother's mg zr 1.4. has anyone had the experience of changing this before. also gonna do cambelt kit change at same time as think need to remove cambelt to change water pump. is this correct??
What do we need to remove etc to get/change these parts. how hard is it to do? does anyone know where/ how to time up cambelt ie where the timing marks are.

hope someone can help.
Thanks.

Straight forward job.

Easy or hard is dependant on your experience and ability.

Can be done without special tools but suggest you obtain a camshaft locking tool for it if you have limited experience etc.

You will need to support the engine as it entails removal of an engine mounting too. Jack and decent block of wood should do.

Line up the cams, lock them in place, highlight their positions with paint etc; also the crank pulley. Change water pump (limited access) and tensioners.

Obtain a manual if you not done 1 of these before is probably good advice.

Obtain a couple of quotes from garages for the job is probably better advice if you have limited experience/ability.

Very important to keep timing marks correct because valve/piston damage WILL occur if wrong!

just remember the golden rule if you do diy it, once the new belt is fitted turn the engine over by hand with a ratchet, if the timing is out the the engine will stop turning where the valve contacts piston but won't do any damage as opposed to if you just started it.
