Hello ,
has anyone out there owned or know of some that has owned an s2 avant . I'm considering buying one on a budget of 9k which should see a nice low ( ish ) mileage 95 model . Any feed back would be much appreciated , cheers Benno2

Hi Benno 2,

I used to own a S6 with the 5 cylinder 2.2 turbo engine as used in the S2, with a 260 BHP conversion (chip and spring). IMHO the engine is generally strong and reliable, however, the subsequent owner suffered cylinder head problems, which I hear are relatively common on these engines.

While looking around, I recently saw a S2 Coupe on an N plate with 60K miles - the Audi specialist dealer is asking 16K! You MUST be joking, I thought. However, do a search under Audi specialist and you'll find it.

Benno,

I have only just registered with Honest John and hence have just seen this. You have probably bought a car already but if not thought you might be interested in my experiences. I have an Audi S2 Avant which I have owned from new in 1993 (and which has done 110000 miles). It has been maintained regardless of expense by specialists AmD of Bicester. It has also been sensibly modified by the same people (but never been used on a track).

Main mods are remapped and tweaked engine to give 300bhp and 360 lbs.ft. of torque, Koni adjustable shocks, Porsche 993 Turbo front brakes, s/steel exhaust and new alloys with Eagle F1 tyres. It has been used as a main family car, both locally and for longer holiday journeys.

It has been wonderfully reliable as well as having stunning performance - with 4 wheel drive a real bonus.

I have often considered replacinmg it but never found anythiong which represents value in comparison. I am however finally looking to sell it as circumstances have changed - and I have acquired a few other cars so need the space. If you are still interested let me know (austin@kbnet.co.uk).
