2000 2.0hdi 90 - engine management light - cbmilly
My 2000 W reg hdi estate 90 bhp with engine number DYFR....... and 130K mileage is showing the dash engine auto-diagnostics warning light, but no message on the central display. The car was serviced last week. I wonder what the most likely cause is, and the likely consequence of ignoring the light.

Cheers

Impossible to say without a code-read - there are 3,000 possible codes.

Many thanks, Screwloose; I'll be off to the garage/dealer then.

Reading of the code at my local garage identified a code for the throttle position sensor switch only. The autodiagnostics light has since extinguished once the code was read.

Knowing the code number would help. There is no throttle switch on these; but there is an official modification for the accelerator position sensor wiring to try and stop repeated false codes like P0121/2 and P0221/2.

Don't be tempted to change the sensor - that'd be £250 down the drain.

Thank you, screwloose; the code was P0220 with the message - throttle pedal position switch, B circuit. The light has not reappeared, I don't think I'll be taking any action unless advised otherwise.

Cheers

The scantool has picked the wrong code definition for your ECU there; for a Bosch EDC15 system P0220 is:-

"Accelerator pedal position sensor B - circuit malfunction."

This is one of the codes the official wiring modification was intended to stop. If/when it returns; get your garage to carry out the earthing change - but make sure they understand what they are doing, if there's going to be any chance of it working.

I have an 03 RHY 2.0 Hdi with the same fauly but showing "pre-post heater relay" on the computer fault. A new car to me so a little worrying. Limp home mode is no fun and the dealers can only suggest a day or two's investigation at mega-bucks can you help?
