1995 1.5D Crankshaft Pulley Problem? - Caspar
Started car this morning - ran badly with exhaust smoke. Thought I had a glow plug problem so set off for work. Down the road was missing and smoking so returned home. This evening attempted to start but it didn't want to. Eventually it fired up with plenty of smoke and a loudish noise. Stopped engine and removed timing belt cover. Belt looks fine but when i turn the engine over it doesn't move at all - crankshaft pulley not moving either.
I suppose the crankshaft pulley has slipped on the crankshaft and the pistons have hit the valves? Crankshaft nut appears to be tight but this seems the only explanation.
I put the car in gear and turned engine over and it moved forward so the crankshaft is turning.
Probably not worth repairing considering its age and value if i'm right.
