My rear wiper on my 96 Golf Estate is continually on. Is it a case of replacing the relay ?

It could be the wiper motor that is faulty. The parking switch may not be opening at the end of the sweep. IIRC there is a 12V feed to the motor when the ignition is on. This feed allows the wiper to park correctly wherever in the sweep it is turned off.

On occasion my rear wiper (on my Golf MK3) appears to stick on, to cancel I pull the control stick) on the steering wheel) toward me a couple of time to cancel, this is how to turn it off, it is an ackward design to switch off the wiper.
It seems like you;ve he same problem.
If not then a relay may have failed.
