2000 has head gasket gone - Tally
Hi All

On my way home on nights today i noticed what looked like a puff of steam from the front of my bonnet, i stopped and had a look and its was not water from the radiator but it looks like a bit of oil around the seal of the top rocker box and around the spark plugs,
does this indicate the head gasket has gone ? can i still drive it without ruining the engine ? and any ideas on the price to fix from a local garage not a dealer.

Thanks

No just the rocker cover gasket. A bit of cork that costs less than a fiver even from a Ford dealer.

Literally a 5 minute job to change. Undo and remove the small bolts round the edge of the rocker cover, lift the cover straight off, extract the old gasket, clean both surfaces with a bit of lint free rag, fit the new gasket, pop the cover back on and nip up the bolts.

Really common problem on these engines.

DP does mean nip otherwise you do what my garage did (had they never serviced a Ford OHV before?) and turn the cover inside out.
