Help!!! My 1999 V reg 406 has encountered quite a serious sounding problem! The clutch pedal has stuck to flor a couple of times and had to be pulled back up, there is a loud squealing noise as if coming from the belt, and there is a strong burning smell!!!
Anyone got any obvious suggestions i can chesk? Is the clutch linked to the belt at all? It's on 112k and doesn't appear to have had new cambelt!

The clutch sticking down is not unknown; IIRC it's a slave cylinder/release bearing issue.
Belt noises are best investigated smartly; these can suffer from crank pulley disintegration and alternator issues. Both can throw bits into the cam belt and cause a disaster.

in other words, don't drive or run the engine and get someone who knows what they're doing to have a look at it???
