Changed the Clio's spark plugs yesterday, before removing the old ones I brushed and hoover'd the dirt etc from around the base of the plugs.
How many garages do the same to stop grit falling into the cylinders?
There must be other similar circumstances where a little extra attention can make a difference.

No, not any more I'm afraid. Used to live in Croscombe and Bath a long time ago. Now in Cheshire. I was just visiting a company today, have to go back a few times in the next couple of weeks. Pig of a drive thru' Brum on the M6/M5 even at 7.00 this morning. Whilst on the subject of this journey I rebelliously ignored the TT's instructions to go thru' Bristol and went thru' Banwell and Cheddar from the M5 J21 to get to Wells. Is that the best way ?

Do you mean Croscombe between Wells and Shepton, The George is a good pub!
Yes, if you know the way - Banwell - Cheddar - Wells is a good as any or come off at the same junction and take the A370 to Congresbury then follow signs to Churchill - and then Cheddar over Shipham hill, a little further in mileage though perhaps an easier route avoiding the Banwell bottleneck.
If you fancy a coffee when you are down, perhaps compare Mondeo stories etc let me know.

I used to use the Bull Terrier in Croscombe when the snug was known as the "Piano bashers bar" but had heard that The George has become the one to go to in recent years, Re coffee and Mondeo anoraking, sure, sounds good - Happy for a Mod to give you my E-mail if that's OK ?

Yes I'll sort that for you. Cheddar you will have mail shortly.

I used to have an Air line suspended from every ramp & definatley blew around the plugs before removing them, Ka's & fiestas were another one that was bad along with many other makes. If you were unlucky dirt down the plug hole would get stuck under a valve seat & make it run on three cylinders so alway's ered on the side of caution! even in the days of side valves with plugs ontop of engines & the old rover F heads etc.

On the other side of the coin, my brother-in-law was running an older XJ6 4.2 and stripped a spark plug thread. Rather than incur the time / cost of removing the head, he had it helicoiled in situ ....
They did the precaution of putting that cylinder at TDC and using a long cotton swab & grease to "mop up" the swarf :)
There were certainly no noticeable ill effects afterward .... it still used oil at 300mpp!

PU, thanks for forwarding the e-mail address.
Shoespy, I will drop you a line later today.
Mods, just an observation, I dont think I put the Renault reference in the thread title so I guess you must have done, I didnt because it is not a Renault specific point. {now dropped}
