1989 quattro cold starting

1989 quattro cold starting - ses
My G registered Audi Quattro 2226cc seems to take too long to start when cold. On first attempt I turn the engine over for about 10 seconds and give up. On second attempt I turn it over for another 10 seconds at which point it fires up. Hot Starting is immediate and problem free. Any ideas anyone?

Also I am aware of there being a 2.2 engine and a 2.3 engine,so which one is mine if it is 2226cc?

Pete, the 80s Quattros came in two capacities: yours and the earlier 2144 cc.
