R Reg 1.6 16v petrol - Dodgy Electrics? - SalAbama
HI there, my Escort seems to have a few electric problems and I was wondering if anyone can help...

1. Sometimes when I unlock the door (either from inside or out) the locks keep locking and unlocking constantly until the door has been shut again!

2. Sometimes when I stop the car and open the door the alarm goes off!

3. Sometimes the speedo just decides not to work at all and then later comes back to life again!

4. The temp gague just doesn't move at all.

Any ideas on how I can fix any of these or is it something only a garage can do?

Thanks x

One of the locks is lazy causing the locking/unlocking, also linked to the alarm.
Speedo may well be a worn differential in the gearbox unless you have a faulty speed sensor. Temp gauge could be thermostat or transmitter causing a lazy gauge. It would help to know age of escort in case you have a wet fuse box

Deending on age of car,speedo could be cable or electronic-also could be diesel or petrol which have different electronics on early models.

It is an R reg, ford Escort - petrol - 1.6 18v

{I'm guessing the 18v is as typo, and you actually meant 16v?}
