Peugeot 2.1 cambelt - Reggie
Has anybody replaced the cambelt on a 2.1 TD Peugoet 406. If so, is the only way to get the top cam belt cover off, to take the upper right engine mounting off? Thanks Reggie

Hi Reggie - I've done the 2.1 Xantia TD timing belt which is the same engine as the 406. Take the weight of the engine on a suitable piece of wood placed on a jack under the sump. Remove the four bolts from the support on the top of the cambelt cover together with the centre bolt from the rubber engine mount. Also take out the three bolts from the lower part of the mounting attached to the inner wing. Haynes advises taking off the starter motor to enable the flywheel to be locked since unlike the smaller XUD's it's not possible to reach the hole in the flywheel housing. I ignored that, and instead, marked the position of the crankshaft with a drop of white paint after setting up the other timing positions. I find it works just as well. All the best!
