00 yr 1.4 - Tapping noise at low engine speeds. - Ashwood Phil

I have an X reg 1.4 Megane. Recently a tapping noise can be heard from the engine. It is only noticeable during idling or travelling at low speeds. I recently got my oil changed on the back of some advice and now the tapping noise only starts one the engine gets up to temperature.
It has been advised that it could be the timing belt tensioner, or the hydraulic tappets.
Can anybody give me any advice as to what this tapping noise could be, and the sort of cost I should expect for repair.

Is it safe to assume that you changed the oil filter at the same time as the oil change? How many miles has the car done? Has it been serviced regularly?
