Does anybody know about this? I have been in an incident recently where I think somebody may have tried taking a photo of my number plate with a camera phone with the intention of using it for cloning purposes. I have let the police know and i'm also planning to write to the dvla to inform them.
Just wanted to know if anybody has any knowledge and if my worries are warranted.

Was the 'incident' someone taking a photo of your plate or were you involved in an accident/incident and some one was takeing photos of it? If I wanted to make a note of someone's plate for cloning purposes I would write it on a bit of paper! Thread drift - I feel very vulnerable to 'cloning' - I drive a silver 5 door 307 and they are very very common ie a good cloning opportunity!

Place very conspicuous, though smal, stickers in front and rear window.
Take pic of car, front and back, with a copy of a newspaper - the Sun is good, as the headlines are normally IN HUGE TYPE!
Send pics and newspaper to yourself regsitered mail.
Don't open the envelope.
Should there be some pics taken of a cloned car at a later date, then you can check for the absense of conspicuous sticker, and prove that your are still there, and have been since the date of the registered letter. at least.
|
But surely all that proves is that on the day of taking the picture you had stickers in your window? You could then remove them the next day?

Do you have a nice car, or one that some think is nice.
I would have thought it quite common, these days, for enthusiasts (at any level) to take pictures with a camera phone.
People walking past our house frequently stop and take a picture of our neighbour's car - it is an Evo VII.

Out of curiosity, what makes you think they may have done it with the intention of cloning.

Me I tke pictures of everything and anything if it looks interesting (not done any of car number plates though), you don't even know that your cars been cloned. Stop worrying and enjoy the extra days holiday !
