Astra/Vectra diesel mass airflow sensor - david
I have been thinking for a while of upgrading from my old 1.9 Pug diesel to the late shape Astra or Vectra diesel. 3 of my colleagues have them, and worship them except that all required new mass airflow sensors at about 36k.
No problems, as they had it done under extended warranties, but I buy my motors at 70k plus. Quite a pricey item, as the wires come as part of a large block.
It has been suggested that they could have been cleaned with carburettor cleaner, but others have said that the wires are too fragile for this. Personally, as you are going to throw the thing in the bin anyway, I would have had a go!
Any information, alternative suppliers, success stories with this component?

The Rover 75 CDT has the same problem, not with MAF failure, but MAF contamination. The cure? Wash the MAF sensor hot-wire with hot water!
Performance is restored....amazing for such a simple fault.

Apparently it affects cars which are mainly driven on motorways in heavy spray. SAAB have the same problem, too.

Try a search on Vauxhall MAF Sensor or similar - it's been debated here previously, David.

Thank you Dave

I might just get on of these new-fangled diesels yet!
