As many of you have guessed, judging by the emails I've received over the last few days, one choice stood out once he did the decent thing and volunteered.
Your new moderator, joining me, DD and Smokie, is.....

Please be gentle, at least for his first week. Welcome to the team PU.
Thanks to everyone else who volunteered. It was very nice and warm and fluffy to know that so many of you cared.
(This is probably as good a time as any to remind you all that the mods can't answer questions that are emailed to us about any issues you may be having - motoring, legal or otherwise - we will only tell you to post it in the forum or email HJ's letters page.)

I do not say "Congratulations", for I suspect that the job, if not quite a poisoned chalice, can be a bit of a bind at times.
Nor do I say "Good luck", for it does not seem to me that it is some sort of contest.
Rather I say "Thank you for being willing to take on the job."

Sorry Pugugly, I think you should have deferred to Groucho, namely by refusing to be a moderator if they were prepared to have you as one.
Still, anyone who's a fan of HHG2G is OK with me. Until he moderates anything that I type. Even the overuse of font formatting.
