my passat 1.8t sport(auto) refused to start the other day, there was no clicking from thr starter solonoid as i would expect if the starter was on the way out, i ended up reattempting to start about 10-15 times then it started ok? any ideas?

A bit more info would help, we only have one crystal ball between us and its not my turn this week :O(
Check battery lead connections and the engine earth connection at the gearbox end, make sure they're clean and secure

As above. The ignition switch is not one of VAG's best specified items on these cars. GSF sell replacement switch units.

As it's an auto - check the starter inhibitor switch as well. During a non-start episode, try moving the gear lever through N & P whilst holding the key in the start position.

I tried moving the gear stick,to no avail.
i was thinking ignition switch as all connections to batt` and starter appear ok.
