Pug v6 406 Cambelt - how much??? - BigRich
Hi my neighbour has just been quoted £730 by Charters of Pangbourne to replace the cambelt, then been advised to change the water pump just in case at the same time bringing the total to just shy of £1000. The car has done 70k miles and is in good condition.
Does anyone know where he can get this done at a more reasonable price, we are located in the Oxfordshire area - in Wallingford?

Can't advise on an alternate garage, but suggesting the waterpump be changed at the same time is good advice. Although I can't see how they can justify asking an extra £270 to do the job.

A post elsewhere re a Clio cambelt change, with the water pump done at the same time while the engine was dismantled for acces, suggested that the price was arrived at by adding together the 'menu' prices for both jobs and ignoring the reduction in labour hours if they were done together. the price quoted to do the water pump at the same time seems steep.
