on my 306 hdi the clutch appears to whistle until the pedal is depressed then the whistle dissapears. Anything to worry about?
other than that the clutch feels nice and smooth with the bite low down

The only time I've come across this - not on a 306 - it was a worn release bearing.
The car lasted another five years and was sold on in the same state.
