I have a 99 1.8 focus that will not start. when i turn the key to the last position there is a constant clicking noise and nothing else. Is this the immobiliser? Please someone help.

usually the sign of a flat battery
or
a sticky solenoid on the starter
check battery terminals first for tightness
if it was an immobilisor issue you wouldnt hear anything on the last bit of the key turning

sounds like a knackkered battery or bad earth or lazy starter solonoid chatering. Check battery is fully charged. If car is manual you could try a bump start if it goes it aint imobilized.

Thanks for the advice (both of you) I have had to leave the car at work so i will look at it tomorrow. Good news its not the immobiliser. Did not look like the battery was flat. After trying to start it put full beam on and it was OK and didn't dip when trying to start again. it's a very strange clicking noise, constant tick tick tick. will try to bump tomorrow.

started straight away with bumping. New battery fitted and all well.
Thanks.

Was more than likely then to have been a bad connection then.
