Is it worth going out and filling up with some creme de la creme diesel and Millers for the smoke test tomorrow?

Just some good diesel and a serious blat will do it -- try to rev it up to 4K in 2nd, 3rd & 4th a few times to blow residual soot out and clean things up a bit.

If I take it out tonight for a blast will that help or does it need to be right beforehand? (It will be stone cold then which I'm always a bit squeamish about!) Rock and a hard place though I guess...

They won't test it if the oil temperature isn't high enough, so you have to take it warm.

I didn't know about the oil temperature, that could have been a right pain.

Counter-intuitively, the strain on a cam belt, or other type of gear (which a cam belt is, like a chain, but unlike an alternator belt or similar) lessens at higher revs - doesn't it?
