I had a major service 2 weeks ago on my Golf at a main VW dealer, including cambelt, water pump & a few other bits. Came to £900! Looked at the recipt carefully at home and saw I'd been charged twice for the new belt & pump, so went back & asked for a refund... also spotted they charge £10 for the spare oil - I thought for some insain reason that it was complimentary - so I asked to return it too as I already have 3 at home! The gave me the refund of £130 and even fitted a new bulb to my instrument cluster FOC (after an impassioned plea from me, pointing out their charging mistake). They then processed the refund, which took three people 5 minutes and three atempts to do - in the guy's words "shows how often we do refunds!" I was left feeling fairly satisfied as my expectations had been lower but I felt I had lucked out to some extent too.

Are there any manufacturers who make performance cars whos dealers are really focused on customer satisfaction? Where they are glad for custom? As I am now looking at a new car and although I like the 3.0 litre BMW Z4, I'm wondering whether a Honda S2000 may prove less stressful experience from this point of view?

No.

The least stressful option, and easier on a new car, is probably to buy a servicing package - make sure it's full service and repair, I think the BMW service inclusive thing is basically limited to oil changes.

If you're at the stage where you needed a cambelt service, could you not use an independent VW specialist rather than stick with the main dealer? There's plenty about.

Believe it or not, it was only £80 less (probably because of the area I live in) and it's not worth it to take the car into 2 different garages for me - I'm going to sell shortly & need to keep up the VWSH too so had to take it to VW already.

But I guess the question is are there any car makers who tend to delight in pleasnig the customer or is this way too much to expect?

I thought Saab were good untill i got overcharge £130 and still cant get hold of anyone at the dealer to get it back, moved to other dealer who again seemed really nice but on my service last week they scratched the bumber when reversing, they actually felt as if they were doing me a favour in getting it repaired!!!

The girl came out to the car and seemed horrified that i asked for a loan car while the repair was done, if that was me i would have been so apologetic, but hey guess i don't deal with angry customers all day!!

When i had a VW i always found them quite good, didnt go in thier as much as my company had some deal with VW and could let our truck mechanics service them?!? I'm sure someone has a VW Golf or Passatt with Cow and Gate or TNT Truckcare stamped in the books, usually reg's atart with M??

They all did mega mileage in 3 years with hardly any probs, the guys would service them in 20 mins and all ran perfect!!

Although I've just sold a Passat, I can recommend White Rose in Petersfield for exemplary customer service, and they're open till 7 pm.
