failed the mot on trailing bushes,how big is the job ,garage quote 100 quid.

Sounds cheap - replacing the rear trailing arm bushes (a known E36 weak point) on my car cost about 3x that at an indie, including £85 worth of four wheel alignment checks.

Could this be the problem with my 1993 318i?

When going over even relatively minor pot holes it seems to 'lurch' to one side or other at the rear. Passed MOT ok in October though and it was doing it just as bad back then.
Felt like the old Ford Cortina void bush problem.

my problem started back 7/8months back,thought it was exaust middle box.

the m reg 318i se we had (still have it, but its off the road til i get round to flogging it) had rear bushes replaced . It was knocking loudly over bumps, didnt lurch at all.

Not sure if it was specifically trailing arm bushes though.

My car didn't knock, but it started to feel unstable at the back and certainly lurched into oversteer when pushed on corners.
