A Tech 2 test has produced the fault code P0400. The problem is an intermittent flat spot that happens occasionally. When the problem occurs the engine management light comes on and Tech 2 shows P0400.
Can anyone suggest what fault this points to please?

After suffering a Citroen Xsara HDi with similar symptoms for 9 months while Citroen could not trace the problem, it definitely sounds like the EGR valve. It was staying open (sometimes) when the throttle was re applied so the ECU was preventing diesel from being injected...............hence flat spots of up to 6 seconds in duration........great fun when exiting junctions and roundabouts!!
In my case, an independent diesel specialist diagnosed the problem in less than 10 minutes using his own test gear.
Amazing that Citroen could not get to the bottom of it.....................

Very common code - can be simple or nasty. There's numerous sub-codes on a Vaux P0400. Dave's right, it's an EGR code - that only GM change to "Critical Systems Malfunction" and being a Vauxhall, it's never quite what it says it is. Under exactly what conditions does it lose power? As the MIL's coming on, it's going into limp-home.
Astra F or G? Exact year; Isuzu or GM engine; [they fit both] and exact engine code [Y/X 17D T/I etc...]

Thanks for your input. The fault is internittent, and I simply change up a gear & continue - it certainly isn't a case of limp-home. Maybe it will then disappear for several lots of accelerating through the gears & then come back.
Very temporary each time, but very annoying, and of course on slip roads etc, very dangerous.
