On our W-reg Kangoo Combi diesel ,it will not enter the pre heat stage to allow easy starting.Once bumped off it runs fine and starts O K when warm.Its been on the computer at the Renault dealers but refuses to show any fault!

All wiring present and correct including the earth for the control/timer unit ?

My sister had problems where the cold start relay came on intermittently. Sounds like your relay is failing. I usually suspect firstly connectors to relay and then check relay contacts. Any burning is usually very evident by the black soot nearby. If you have a meter or 12V bulb with wires, check the 12V appears across coil.
