96 punto 55 wiper fault

96 punto 55 wiper fault - wheeltrims
My windscreen wiper intermittant wipe has stopped working. It now runs continually and does not park and i have to select the stopping position manually with the stalk.
both speed are working but they will not park.

the wiper setup on these is a cassette type ie motor and linkage and is all one
if you remove the plastic under the bonnet in front of the windscreen you will see that this cassette is held in by the wiper spindles on nuts x 2 and one other bolt (10mm?) i seem to remember ,undo all these plus the electrical plug being careful not to tap the windshield as you can crack it easily.
go to the scrappy and get another £20 max you should be paying and put everything back in the reverse order
i am 99% sure this will cure your problem as i have never known a switch go

Punto and Alfa 146 wiper mechanisms have a weak point where a plastic spindle assemble fits into a metal rod that runs between the two spindles. They crack and eventually break at this piont.

If you find a good one in a scrap yard keep it their like rocking horse poo. new ones are about £60 iirc.

mk 2 punto seen this often and repaired them with mk1 punto arms cut and shut.
never had a problem with the mk 1.
and it has nothing to do with the parking anyway :-(
