02 115 tdci loss of power - sean b
Hi, I have been reading the info that some members have left in the past on similar problems, non of which appear to of had any luck in solving the faults, and was wondering does anyone have any recent info which could help with the fault on my car?
Occasionally it will crank but not start, this is rectified by locking and unlocking the car again.Although it does only feel as if it starts on two cylinders most of the time.
It sometimes suffers from a loss of power as it reaches the 3000rpm mark. Other times it may just do what i can only describe a cough and then be ok again.
Last week i lost power and then the glow plug light started to flash, the car lost almost all power, and then stopped completely, after this it started again and has been fine since.

Many thanks
Sean b

Until you have it plugged into a computer and read the fault codes you have very little chance of finding out what is wrong, that is unless it is something obvious like a loos connection etc.

A 'poke and hope' approach does not work with these engines.
You need to take it to a dealer and get fault codes read. Sounds like it could need the injectors re-coding...?

Thanks, it has been plugged in,4 codes were found, and they suggested trying the fuel pump in the tank, due to low fuel rail pressure, but this is not a definite answer as pressure was fine when they checked it which worries me slightly after reading the other threads that have been left by members having no luck even though many so called solutions were tried. All codes have now been cleared in the hope it will happen again giving a more definite fault. ??

Were the codes read at Fords or by somebody with a code reader.

If the code is low pressure, but the pressure is OK when measured then that could be a faulty pressure sensor, which would fit with other symptoms. However diagnosis of a TDCI is difficult when you have the car in front of you and all the right kit to hand. Diagnosis over the internet would be almost impossible. Really it has to go back to Ford or someone with appropriate kit (e.g. Autodiagnos etc). Best of luck with it, and I hope its not the pump!

it was read by independant garage with bosch code reader, think i may have to accept that i have wasted my money there and take it to Ford?
thanks

Well, it all depends on the skill and experience of the people using the kit. Some main dealers have all the kit but no one with enough brain cells to use it - or the knowlegible bloke is on holiday so they give it to the apprentice to have a go with. On balance though, the main dealer is a good place to start. They will have WDS kit and you don't have to have the repair done there, you can take it elsewhere.
If they come back and tell you pump trouble then p/x it or get shot of it somehow before it drains your wallet and you've spent too much to be able to afford to sell it.

Stumbled across this on Fleabay just in case it is a pump problem:

I can see you have 3 problems here:

The starting problem can be one of two things: Camshaft position sensor or dual-mass flywheel gone.

The loss of power I had exactly like yours...at 3 - 3.5k rpm. They found a snapped MAF sensor wire to the accelerator potentiometer and changed it...it was fine for just a few months and problem returned. On Tuesday I'm taking it to an independent specialist and keep you posted.

The glow plug light indicates injectors playing up.

Just now I'm seeing how long ago you posted...by this time you either solved the problems or sold it :)
