I've been offered one of these for free. How difficult would it be to fit a new starter motor/ The owner has been quoted £400!
|
£400 I'd have thought that would include flywheel and clutch too.
|
I would'nt have thought so, not done one mind, anyway its free. Could just be poor conection between battery / starter / earth. A friend of mine used to really rate them

Alternately take the original one off, and exchange for a reconditioned one from an auto electrician, and they in turn will recon yours for someone else.
Or source one from a scrapyard. Normally only held on with a couple of bolts, and also the electrical connection(s)
|
My point was that for the £400 quoted maybe there's a problem with the ring gear on the flywheel?
I'd have thought a recon starter fitted would be around £100 - 120 for an old Polo.

Pull the starter out and have a look(not difficult IIRC).The state of the pinion will give you a clue, but check the RG while turning the engine by hand, use a torch and mirror if neccessary.
