'Sticking' Polo Clutch Pedal - RickyBoy
Daughter got caught out on her way to work yesterday. Unfortunately I wasn't in the county at the time so unable to help. She got a tow via her Breakdown recovery service to a local garage who bled the hydraulic system (£30total cost) but were unable to find anything else wrong with the mechanism. She drove home without any difficulty last night.

However, on her way to work this morning the exact same thing happened. Had to knock it int neutral and roll into a bus stop! Luckily I was around and drove down to her rescue. I too was unable to engage any gear until i realised that the clutch pedal wasn't realeasing itself fully into its uppermost position. Eventually I was able to 'lift' it up manually to enable it to spring back to where it should be. She continued to work with me following. I'm about to pop down to coleect and drive it around/back home and investigate further.

Guess this problem is likely to reoccur/persist. Any ideas as to what might be preventing the clutch pedal from disengaging fully, etc.

Much appreciated...

And what year and model of polo is that. I As it has hydraulic clutch I suspect the pinion tha the pedal hinges on is partically seizes and or the return sprinp has broken. Regards Peter

Hi Peter.

Thanks for your reply/suggestion.

It's the Polo S (first reg 06/2002), 1198CC, 65BHP one.

I drove it back (only a couple of miles walk!) home earlier today and everything was fine. There's been no previous trouble/prior warning until yesterday's occurrence. I originally thought that the extremely cold weather morning starts of late might be a factor ? frozen fluid?!

I've Googled and come up with:

Hydraulic Clutch master cylinder seal can reverse itself causing clutch pedal to stay down and therefore not de-clutch;

Clutch Pedal Box failure;

Clutch pedal bearing worn.

Hopefully none of those and more something along the lines of your suggestion(s)

I'm just off to see a man who knows about such things!

Best...

My man referred to his man (a VW specialist mechanic) and the prognosis appears to be the Master Cyclinde needs replacing. This particular VW manufactured(?) part has apparently been habitually failing of late!
