81 Mercedes dashboard lights

81 Mercedes dashboard lights - R.Turpin
I have just bought a 1981 300 D saloon. The VIN No begins 123.... if relevant. I can't get access to the dashboard lights to change the bulbs. Does anyone know how to do this. help much appreciated.

The dash pod on these is a push fit.The best way to pull it forward is to release the underdash plastic panel (3or4 screws)and gently ease forward.Be careful,you will need to disconnect the speedo cable and the oil pressure gauge pipe .Also a common failing on these is the rotary light dimmer rheostat.

Elekie, it was indeed the rotary dimmer which I have by-passed. Problem cured.
