Hi,
noticed this evening that the battery light on the dash is staying on after the car is started, the light isnt very bright but definately on , could this be the alternator on its way out? or a knackered battery? any ideas please.

sounds like its your alternator.
Try disconnecting the negative lead on the battery with the engine running,,,, if it dies then its new alternator time

Escorts had this concern back in the nineties;the service fix was to renake the earth connection on the alternator-worked OK on mine.

everything back working as it should, changed alternator today seems to have cured the problem, thanks for your replies.

dj67blue. Never do that trick it can take out ECU, very expensive. Just measure the charging voltage if it is not greater that 13.75 the alternator, it's brushes or it's connection are faulty. Regards Peter
