Has ayyone suffered the same problem as me?
I bought a car from a dealer ( who I trust, and have bought from before) almost 2 months ago .he agreed to do the DVLA paperwork, which he has confirmed he has done. But I still don't have the owenr's doc (v5?)
Apparently they have a big backlog and calling them is a waste of time.
if they do have a big backlog, why? Has there been some sudden surge in carbuying activity?

I would suggest you telephone the DVLA with the relevant details and ask them what's going on.
I recently had to do a change of ownership on a family car, and obtained a new V5C after 2 weeks.

Probably short staffed plus it's the holiday season.

5 weeks for my last V5 (June this year.)

I've been waiting about 2 months for my V5. I was given the car by my brother and he filled in the paperwork and sent it off for both of us. I've questioned him a few times and he tells me it was sent. Everytime I phone they tell me to go to my local office, which is about 20 miles away, surprise it is never in my name so can't issue me with the paperwork.

Bought 2 cars in the last month, paperwork through ok no problems.
Make a phone call!

My experience during July this year:
Change of address for two cars and a motorbike
One car and the bike processed within a week
Second car not processed after two weeks (despite log book being sent in the same envelope as the others)
Called DVLA
Navigated phone menu
Phone answered on second ring
Answer given (was processed today) inside a minute
Sure enough, log book arrived the next day
Give 'em a call.
