Missing Section 10 - V5 Form (Log book) - Perfection
Hi guys,

We have a question on section 10 (New Keeper Supplement) slip. We just bought a car and this slip is missing, is there naything to be worrying about?

We just bought a car from AvailableCar and didn't notice at the time, since we're not very familiar with the form. Having got home now and compared to our current V5 form section 10 is missing.

Any ideas?

the new keeper section 10 is the only bit that the seller should have given you ,not the other way round.

Just made a phone call to AvailableCar, they said its normal practice for them to retain section 10 until the car is paid in full on collection, in case the customer changes their mind.

We have paid a deposit and will need to pay the balance on collection of the car next week, and hope section 10 is available to us. Hope they're genuine about this.

For those guys remember ourposting a few weeks back regarding to looking for a small Diesel car with Air Conditioning and good MPG and have experienced badly with main dealers.
The update is now..............

We have found a Yaris 1.4 D-4D 5 door (T-Spirit) and made the plung and bought it yesterday. The sticker price is reasonable in our opinion when compared to the dealers. The car is difficult to find.

Hope this will be a smooth transaction.

Will post again when get more updates following collection of the car.

Seems reasonable.

In fact you haven't bought the car yet, just said you would and paid a deposit - so likewise, nothing untoward so far.

Perfection.........do you have sections 4 to 11 then?.........and no section 10?

if this is so this i cannot understand ,when you go back to collect your car please ask the garage if they are on the new TV3T as ive seen the forms myself for this but thought it was just more dvla red tape.....

THANKS........

Yes - we have section 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 11.

The thing is that section 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 will be handed over to the post office to purchase Road Tax. The post office will send it off to DVLA.

So we will have nothing to say we're are the owner of the car. Is this seems right?

We're very tempted not to tax the car until we go and pay the balance and collect the car, and hoping to get section10. At least we still ahev a copy of the above sections mentioned.

Can someone see any problem with this transaction, i.e seller doing something naughty?

One more thing - is it worth for us to do a HPI check, bear in mind that the car is supplied by a Car Supermarket.

Can you expalin what is the TV3T ?

You will have a receipt for the purchase which proves the car is yours. The V5C is purely the keeper not the owner.

yes perfection its where a dealer can automatically transfer owner details via the web to dvla rather than the swansea paper chase. Ive checked today and the system is not yet up and running, the system will also allow dealers to tax older vehicles ...........
As said the v5c is a recorded keeper document and is not a legal owner document the receipt does this ,i am sure you are over worrying OP : )

Thank you guys for the response. "As we get older we worry more!".

We're more re-assured now........can't wait to pick up the car on Monday.........

Hi guys...

We picked up the car on Monday, and AvailableCar was very profesionally prepared and got the car ready on time.

All documentations were in place. I think they'e better than most main dealers as we have experienced so far when buying used cars. The salesman were never pushy and they are honest unlike other places we have been to so far.

We managed to cover 320 miles 80% on motorway (70 - 78 MPH) in a day by putting £20 of fuel. This gives us about 67MPG. Well done Toyota it ties up with the official claims.

One question on Diesel engine though. Why does the Manual recommended that after a long drive on the motorway, the car needs idling for at least 30 seconds before turing off the engine?

>Why does the Manual recommended that after a long drive on the motorway, the car needs idling for at least 30 seconds before turing off the engine?

Turbos continue to spin when the engine stops. If you stop suddenly from 75 mph to 0 (eg Mway services) your turbo will be hot and spinning, yet the oil pump will not be running, so the turbo will be running without the coolling and lubricating effect of the circulating oil. That will kill it, eventually.

Big trucks sometimes have a special resevoir that fills with oil, and releases it to the turbo when the oil pressure drops.
