I purchased a hyundai santa fe 2.7 v6 a week ago and from the second i left the garage it was faulty.when i put my foot down on the throttle the revs drop off and will not pick up and it splutters and coughs.has anybody encountered this fault?it is in the hyundai garage at the moment but they do not have a clue what is wrong with it.

Do you know if its a throttle cable or 'fly by wire'? If its the latter then there may lie the problem and its an electronic issue. If not I havent a clue!

Tommo and P Leigh the same person, or what's going on?
Anyway, you've only give a basic description of the fault. If the Hyundai dealer (with all manuals and Hyundai trained technicians, fault code readers and having the vehicle in front of him) can't fix it then I don't think I can help.
These engines and engine management are basically Mitsubishi. Generally very reliable and not too difficult to diagnose. Need to find out whether its a fuel or sparks problem - shouldn't be fairly straightforward.

does anybody think this could be a fuel blockage?
|
Sound a bit daft this but on my Sante Fe if I brake with the left foot whilst trying to keep the revs up the engine dies and will not pull until I take my foot of the brake.
Vacuum leak somewhere in the system?

Many cars these days do that! It's a comment you often see on VAG cars. The ECU cuts the fuel supply as soon as you touch the brake.

My colleague found that out on his Scenic auto the other week, trying to left foot brake after it had been stood a few days to clean the discs up. Nearly brained himself on the steering wheel apparently...
