Honda Accord Diesel emissions - bert-j
Can anyone explain why the C02 emissions for the Honda Accord Diesel saloon is 143 g/km and the Tourer (estate) with the same engine is 155 g/m? This difference is significant with regard to the new VED rates - £110 compared to £130 read

The engine has to work harder in the tourer (weight, shape possibly). When it's in a CR-V it's 177 g/km.

Interesting about the CR-V. The same engine in the Civic is rated at 135 g/km so I'm sure you are correct. Presumably CO2 emissions are calculated when the car is actually being driven on a rolling road so the mass and rolling resistance then becomes significant. However, the shape of the car wouldn't then be a factor.

On a 20 grand car, and when a tank of diesel costs £60 a time, I would beg to suggest that £20 per year is *not* significant.

There is a body of opinion that thinks the CO2 ratings on Accord have somehow come out remarkably low, because many of the Accord diesels dont achieve the fuel consumption that they should do.
The low CO2 rating suits company car drivers, because it means their tax bills will be lower, and they don't care about the extra fuel costs because their company is paying for it.
