V11 Form Question - Doc

I have just renewed my car tax.

On the V11 form it asks what is the current mileage (optional).
What is the point in this, as the Post Office do not record the figure and the form is returned at the end of the transaction?

I asked the same question in the same circumstances a couple of years. The lady in the post office didnt know, so i asked DVLA. Unfortunately i emailled them from my old job, so haven't got the email, but the gist of it was that the current mileage would be used. But not yet.

Why don't email DVLA and ask them? It is daft.

its a longer term strategy that will stop clockers,when you now have a new siemens mot the data is logged forever including the mileage therefore when, not if, the mileage is entered at every tax renewal you can tie the owner of the vehicle at the time to the mileage discrepancy, ie trading standards have good hard evidence.
You now have to get the d.o.b of the new keeper on the v5c and soon you will need their driving licence number but when that comes in hasnt been said but im sure its now very near ish?
